Bill Haney - Navigator World War II and POW at Stalag Luft I

2nd Lt. John William Haney  "Bill"
96th Bomb Group
Navigator - B-17
Shot down on 9th mission -  July 21, 1944

Stalag Luft I - North 2 - Barracks 7 - Room 4

Bill passed away on January 4, 2006 - Rest in peace, Bill.

What a wonderful man Bill Haney was!!   I will never forget his kindness and help to me when I first started researching my Dad's World War II history.  I went to my first National Ex-POW meeting not knowing a single soul . Bill stayed several hours late after the Stalag Luft I reunion night meeting talking to me and a widow of an ex- Stalag Luft I POW, answering our questions and explaining the photos of Stalag Luft I.  He got my address and a couple of weeks later he mailed me a lot of information he had accumulated on the camp.  A lot of which was the basis for forming this website.
