My father Harold R. Carlson was a POW from sometime in the fall of 1944 until 1945. I know he talked some about staying on a farm working for a farmer, but he would not say much more than that about his time as a POW. He was part of Co. B 60th Inf. I'm not sure where he was captured. Any information would be appreciated.

I am doing a research paper for a college course and I felt that a paper on my great grandfather would be an interesting topic, and an excellent way for me to learn more about his life. I know that he was in Stalag 3b, his serial number is 20808185, and that he was in the 36th Texas Infantry 143rd Regiment Company E. Any information possible would be appreciated. Thank you

I believe, according to his stories, he and "Curly" laid in the ditch after being straffed on the March and then took off together. Deane was a T/Sgt. on a b24 that was shot down Oct 9, 1944, I think. Thanks!

Dad was shot down on Oct 8, 1943 over the gulf of Corinth in Greece. They had just bombed the Athens Eleusis airdrome. Dad flew with the 321st Bomb Group out of North Africa. They flew the famous B-25 bomber. Dad's stay at Luft I began in November of'43 and ended in '45 with repatriation due to wounds from the downing of his aircraft. Dad was an artist before the war and so was able to bring back a lot of drawings of fellow prisoners back with him. I have these in my possession. Dad's CO was General Robert Knapp. Dad's wingman Joel Hartmeister was also shot down right before Dad got it. They were flying against the "elite" pilots of Jagdgeschwader 27, some of whom were approaching the 3 figure amount of planes shot down. Dad passed away in 1994 at the age of 79. His fondest memories were of flying his beloved B-25 while not in combat. Just a little info. Keep up the good work and let's keep the history going. James

My late husband was in the US Army in Germany he spent some time in a POW camp that was run by a woman. He was on the belt to go into the fires but they were shut down because they were out of fuel when liberated and he was saved. I don't remember the name of the camp or the year. It would be my guess his stay ended with the fall of Germany. Can you possibly give me the name of this camp? This woman also made lamp shades from tatoos.

He was not american but Welsh and I believe he was in the Welsh Guards but I might be wrong. He died in 1984 and I would very much like to hear from anyone who might have known him while there. The experience affected him greatly and he spent time in a psychiatric hospital when he returned home. He was a favourite uncle of mine, always gentle but the experinece really determined the rest of his life.

Dear veterans,

My father a Dutch Marine was in both camps as a P.O.W.1943-1945.
I made a website about him ( in Dutch ) and tried to look for information as much as possible about those stalags. On my website I put documents confirming his stay there. You can see them on the "Krijgsgevangenen" Page.( meaning:POW)
If anyone have further information about those camps I'd like to know. maybe a link.
There are more children of Dutch POW's who wanted to know more about it.
We can not find it on Dutch Pages.
My website adress is:
http://verouden.pijnackerweb.nl

His story is in English on the site Prisoner Of War at:

Thanks and regards,
Marga.
